Dr Philip Thomas

Dr Philip ThomasPhilip graduated with honors from Monash University Medical School in 1991, training in general surgery at the Alfred Hospital and Austin and Repatriation Medical Centres for five years before commencing Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Monash Medical Centre in 1997, obtaining the specialist qualification MRANZCOG in 2000. He then spent two years in England and Scotland, working in Taunton, Welwyn Garden City, Gloucester Royal Infirmary, Oxford, Whipps Cross and Farnborough.In 2002, he obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and was elevated to Fellowship of the RANZCOG in 2003.

Upon return to Australia Philip undertook a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at the Royal Women’s Hospital, working as staff specialist before entering private practice. He now trains other specialists and senior registrars in the same field, and is a trainer for the Monash Medical Centre gynaecological endosurgery programme and preceptorship courses.

Philip has worked as a consultant at the Royal Women’s Hospital, Monash Medical Centre, Box Hill Hospital and Sandringham Hospitals, and works in Leongatha (rural Victoria) in gynaecology and infertility. A Masters Degree in Reproductive Medicine was completed through UNSW in 2011.

One of his main roles now is to supervise and mentors specialists in training: Dr Thomas is Chairman of the RANZCOG Surgical Skills Training Group.

His main areas of practice are infertility, endometriosis and its surgical treatment, menstrual disorders and minimally invasive (“keyhole” or laparoscopic) surgery.

It is Philip’s passion to ensure that you get the best surgical and gynaecological treatment, based on up to date techniques, latest technologies and evidence based practice.

Hugh has been a consultant anaesthetist for over ten years and has a huge experience in everything from neurosurgery to gynaecology and beyond. . He has a consultant appointment at Monash Medical Centre and is an examiner for the College of Anaesthetists. A careful and caring anaesthetist, his objective is to get you through surgery as easily and comfortably as possible using the best and latest techniques and drugs. Dr Oshri Barel

Oshri completed his specialist training in Obstetrics Gynaecology and Infertility in Israel and worked as a consultant there for two years. He has a teaching position in Tel Aviv university and has published a number of scientific papers in obstetrics and gynaecology. Oshri is currently in Melbourne completing a two year Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery working with leading surgeons such as Dr Thomas.


Dr Sneha Parghi

Dr Sneha Parghi obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Adelaide in 2006. Recognising a passion for Obstetrics & Gynaecology she commenced her specialist training with the RANZCOG in 2011.

Sneha is currently expanding her special interest in Minimally Invasive Surgery working as a surgical assistant with Dr Philip Thomas as a twelve month fellowship.

Sneha has worked with Medecins Sans Frontieres in Haiti after the earthquake in 2010. She speaks Gujarati and French. She is married and has recently become a mother to a vivacious little girl.


Dr Mez Aref

Dr Mehrnoosh (Mez) Aref is an obstetrician/ gynaecologist from London, UK, who is joining Dr Thomas’ surgical team in 2017-18, to further her skills in advanced laparoscopic surgery.

 

 


Hugh O’Connor

Dr O’Connor is an advanced trainee in Obstetrics & Gynaecology from Ireland. He graduated with honours from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2008. Following initial training in general surgery he commenced his training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in 2010. In 2015 he obtained his membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists in London. Hugh is currently undertaking a two year fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery with leading Melbourne surgeons including Dr Thomas.
